QUARANTINE & ISOLATION GUIDELINES

As the Los Angeles County Public Health guidelines are continually updated, we will continue to update the protocols for decision making within our School. As always, the health and safety of our Scholars, Faculty, and Community are at the forefront of all we do.

Asymptomatic Scholars who are not fully vaccinated:
  • The Scholar must follow a 5-day quarantine at home but can return to school for in person instruction. Scholars must take a test on Day 3 after the last day of exposure. Upon receiving a negative test result on Day 3, the Scholar will be released from quarantine. If the Scholar does not test, they must complete the full 10 day quarantine period regardless of symptoms.

Asymptomatic Scholars who are fully vaccinated:
  • Scholars do not need to quarantine but are required to test on Day 3 after the last day of exposure.

Asymptomatic Scholars previously infected with COVID-19 in the last 90 days:
  • Scholars do not need to quarantine or test. However, they must follow all other masking guidelines and monitor symptoms.

All close contacts, regardless of vaccination status and previous COVID-19 infection must continue to monitor their health and are strongly recommended to wear their mask at all times when around others both indoors and outdoors for 10 days following the last date of exposure.

Please note that Scholars can continue to participate in athletics or other extracurricular activities during their quarantine period if all testing and masking criteria are met.

If a Scholar is symptomatic, regardless of vaccination status, they should consult a medical provider for evaluation and possible COVID-19 testing. The Scholar may return to campus after completing the full 5 day quarantine period, showing improvement of symptoms and remaining fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication. If a symptomatic Scholar tests positive, they must follow isolation guidelines.

Asymptomatic Scholars who are not fully vaccinated or who are fully vaccinated and booster-eligible but have not yet received their booster dose:
  • Scholars must follow a 5-day quarantine at home. The Scholar can return to school after Day 5 if a negative test* is collected on Day 5 from the date of last exposure and the Scholar remains asymptomatic. Activities may resume starting on Day 6.
  • If the Scholar does not test, they must complete the full 10 day quarantine period regardless of symptoms. Activities may resume on Day 11 provided the Scholar is asymptomatic.
  • In addition, for 10 days following the last date of exposure, all close contacts must continue to monitor their health, wear their mask at all times when around others both indoors and outdoors and upgrade their masks (children should wear a non-cloth mask of multiple layers of non-woven material with a nose wire and adults should wear a surgical mask or higher level PPE).
  • If the confirmed case is within the Scholar's household and the positive case is isolated from the rest of the household, the Scholar must quarantine for at least 5 days following their last exposure to the confirmed case. If unable to isolate, please use the day after the infected person ends isolation as Day 1 of quarantine for the sibling(s). Additionally, if a new member of the household with whom the Scholar has direct contact with is diagnosed with COVID-19, then the 5 day quarantine period restarts to the date of last exposure with the newly infected person.

Asymptomatic Scholars who are boosted or who are fully vaccinated but not yet booster-eligible:
  • Scholars do not need to quarantine but are required to test*. Testing is required on Day 5 after the last exposure.

Asymptomatic Scholars who are previously infected with COVID-19 in the last 90 days regardless of vaccination status:
  • Scholars do not need to quarantine and are exempt from testing. However, they must follow all masking guidelines and monitor symptoms.

*Tests must be FDA-authorized viral COVID-19 tests including PCR or Antigen tests. To ensure accuracy and validity, no home testing kits will be accepted

If a Scholar is symptomatic, regardless of vaccination status, they should consult a medical provider for evaluation and possible COVID-19 testing. The Scholar may return to campus after completing the full 10 day quarantine period, showing improvement of symptoms and remaining fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication. If a symptomatic Scholar tests positive, they must follow isolation guidelines.

A Scholar who tests positive for COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status, previous infection, or lack of symptoms, must isolate for at least 5 days. Length of isolation depends on symptoms and a negative viral test.
  • A Scholar can return to campus if a negative viral COVID-19 test is collected on day 5 or later, does not have symptoms, and has not had a fever for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicine. When testing, it is better to use an antigen test because NAAT/PCR tests can stay positive even after you are no longer infectious.
  • In addition, the Scholar must wear a mask indoors and outdoors for a total of 10 days when around others (children should wear a non-cloth mask of multiple layers of non-woven material with a nose wire and adults should wear a surgical mask or higher level PPE).
  • If no test is administered, the Scholar must isolate for 10 days, show improvement of symptoms, and have not had a fever for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.

(To ensure consistency and in an abundance of caution, all isolation periods will be calculated from the date a Scholar tests. Please note Day 0 is the day your positive test was taken. Day 1 is the first full day after your positive test was taken.)

Please keep in mind that the School can only identify and anonymously inform close contacts who were exposed at School. Therefore, it is your responsibility to inform all other close contacts outside of the school.

As a reminder, if a Scholar is diagnosed with COVID-19 and/or is a close contact of a confirmed case, please notify the school immediately by emailing contact@pilibos.org.

We ask that you report confirmed COVID-19 cases to the School as soon as possible so that we can take the necessary steps to protect the health and safety of those involved.
