HW for Tuesday: Review Unit 1, Ch -1-5 in Google Classroom

HW for Tuesday: Review Unit 1, Ch -1-5

Dear students,
This is a sample of a test. Solve it as if you're actually taking the test and see how long it takes you to do it.
We can go over it on Tuesday, and discuss the next chapter.

Due:

Classwork cont. in Google Classroom

Classwork cont.

Here is the worksheet we started working in class;
Just a reminder, create a back-to-back stem-leaf-plot as well;
this will be a better option: 1) we don't have to many data values, 2) we wouldn't need to create intervals (bins), 3) we can plot all the data values, back-to-back which will help us compare the data entries.

Due:

HW: Book and Review of Logarithms in Google Classroom

HW: Book and Review of Logarithms

In Ch. 4 and next chapters, we will use logs;
please watch the two short videos (part 1 and 2) to review the log concept; he is really good and explains the concept very well.

https://youtu.be/MEAwyRUsX2o
Also look over pp. 83-80 (Ch. 4) if you have the 4th edition; and 78-84 if you have 5th edition. There is no new concept; it merely compares groups with histograms/box plots/ stem-plots (back-to-back).

Khan Academy: Effects of shifting, adding, & removing a data point in Google Classroom

Khan Academy: Effects of shifting, adding, & removing a data point

I recommend watching the videos on this site. They are helpful because it shows that we cannot generalize and should decide on a case-by-case basis.
The question in the book/on the quiz is ambiguous as you also pointed out. I think this will somehow provide a better explanation.
I'll find and post some data, so we can experiment and get a better feeling how everything is affected.

Due:

HW for Thursday

Dear students,
I am very happy with all our discussions in class. Regarding question 21 in Ch. 2 (those who need it, see scans of ch. 2 uploaded earlier). Please search online and find one example with explanation and bring to class on Thursday. As keyword, you can use "percentage table" or "Column vs Row Percentages" or a word/words of your choice.

A reminder that all HW and class participation is graded.

Due:

Extra Credit HW for Tuesday, 8/13/19 in Google Classroom

Extra Credit HW for Tuesday, 8/13/19

Dear Students, since we have 4 days until our next meeting, I want you to look at assignments 21 and 22 of Ch. 2, p. 38. (I had uploaded all pages of Ch. 2).

What you need to do is to find out how the entries in both tables (21 and 22) were calculated. Create a table for each of the assignments showing how the percentages were calculated. Write for example: (24/540)x100%=4.5%.
Please note that these numbers are not taken from the assignments.

If you have any questions or concerns, please post a comment or a question. I would like to use our classroom page as a discussion forum.

This will be graded as extra credit.
please also read my post regarding part (d) of number 21.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Due:

Please feel free to email me if you have questions. I will then post your questions (no name mentioned) and the answers on our class website.

As always, read, take notes, and be prepared to share your thoughts and questions in class.
