Earth Day Festival
The most anticipated day for the elementary students had arrived on May 4, 2010. For the past two years the Environmental Club had been organizing a festival for the awareness of the Rose and Alex Pilibos youth to recycle and keep the Earth clean. As any good environmentalist would know, Earth Day was on April 22. However, since April was a month of mourning due to the commemoration of the Armenian Genocide, the Environmental Club couldn’t host the Earth Day Festival in the month of April. Therefore, the final date was decided for May 4, 2010. This year, the festival encompassed games, activities, and contests associated with the environment. Some of these games and activities included pin the heart on the Earth, musical globe, separating recycling, and water bottle bowling. The students were especially excited for the results of the contest where they were required to write a poem regarding the environment. In addition, the festival included healthy snacks such as granola bars, jello, fruits, and pretzels for the students to enjoy. The Earth Day Festival concluded with the final event, the piñata. At the end of the day, the students were overjoyed with pleasure for the various prizes they won. Also, they felt a sense of happiness for taking a role in helping the environment by bringing bottles and paper from home to be recycled by the Environmental Club.
